Ranney Girls Varsity Tennis Wraps Up 2017 Season as Champions

The Ranney Girls’ Varsity wrapped up the 2017 season with an impressive overall record of 17-2. The Panthers managed to plow through the conference unscathed, going undefeated in Shore Conference Class B Central with a 12-0 record. Ranney won the NJSIAA Non Public “B” South Championships, defeating Gill St. Bernard 3-2 in the final.

Ranney was the overall NJISAA Prep “B” team champions. Sophia Salvador was a finalist in first singles Individual Prep B, and Anna Effenberger was third singles champion.

In doubles, Nikki Goldwert and Emma Nisbet won first doubles and Maddie Blumenkrants and Himani Nayyar won second doubles.

“I would call this year’s team the Dream Team,” said Head Coach Mary Mottola. “Our success was only possible because of the depth we have. We had a lot of experience with our four seniors, Anisha, Emma, Nikki and Maddie. From positions 1-10, all the girls could step up at any time, and they did.”

“I’m very proud of the way our girls handled themselves on the court. Win or lose, they are very gracious. We will miss our seniors, but between our other varsity players and our strong JV team, we are in good shape for next year to build on this momentum.”
