Ranney Sailing Team Gains Berth to Atlantic Coast Championship

On Oct. 21- 22, Ranney competed against the top 18 high school sailing teams from the Mid-Atlantic region for the chance to advance to the Atlantic Coast Championship.

Despite the fact that the weather conditions were less than optimal, the Ranney team finished third.  The Panthers’ third place finish qualifies them to compete against the top high school teams along the Atlantic Coast at Kings Point, New York on November 11-12.

The Ranney team that competed in Rochester was comprised of Luke Arnone, Blake Epstein, Cameron Giblin, Matthew Hamelsky, William Beyer and Brook Schmelz. The team is coached by Clay Johnson.

On Oct. 14, the Panthers won the NJISA Fall Fleet Championsip Regatta for the right to advance to the MASSA District Fall Gold Fleet Championship. They were one of 13 high school teams from across New Jersey competing.

One day after winning the NJISA Fall Fleet Championship, the Ranney Panthers captured first place in the Fall Fleet Team Racing Qualifier.  Ranney competed against six other New Jersey High Schools in 13 races.  Ranney won all 13 races, advancing to the MASSA Fall Team Racing Championships at St. Mary’s college in Maryland, which will be held November 4-5.

The win was a complete team effort, with the following team members participating:  Luke Arnone, Cameron Giblin, Brooke Schmelz, Blake Epstein, Matthew Hamelsky, Catherine Vucetic, William Bayer, Hubert Wang, Anson He and Tom Chen.
