Ranney Students Host Successful Santa's Brunch by Beneath the Surface

On Saturday, Dec. 9, the incredible generosity of Ranney students was shared at the Beneath the Surface Santa's Brunch.

Over 50 adults and their children from various local organizations (serving families with invisible illnesses) gathered for fun, food and entertainment.

About 20 Ranney students and volunteers came out and helped put smiles on children's faces as they were given gifts by Santa (donated by Toys R Us).

Beneath the Surface members included: Carlie Taurosa, Madison Chamas, Chris Autino, Shannon Gorman, Charlotte Kaye and Alya Hozayen.

Sophia Yanney, Evan Woska, Max Kyrillos, and Salma Adelbarry put on live musical performances for the families.

President Carlie Taurosa said, "Santa's Brunch was a event to support people who suffer from an 'invisible illness' and let them know they are in a safe environment. I have been battling a pain sydrome for years and if your peers lack empathy, it makes everyday tasks completely debilitating. This event showed those suffering that they are not alone. I started 'Beneath the Surface' to help those who face challenges that cannot be seen by the naked eye, to educate people about these hidden challenges, and to teach the power of empathy."

"Santa’s brunch was a big success," said Taurosa. "So many families in need were beyond thankful for this event. My heart is filled. Everyone had so much fun. A mother struggling from stage 3 breast cancer was brought to tears because she finally saw her daughter smile again. It is amazing to be able to give to the community. It truly makes a difference in people’s lives to know that there are others who are compassionate/ accepting towards what you are going through."
