Matthew Chang Claims Shore Conference Championship in 100-Yard Fly

Senior Matthew Chang won the Shore Conference Swim Championship title in the 100-yard fly on Feb. 3 with a time of 52.40 seconds. His win marks the first-ever Ranney Shore Conference Swim Champion

Chang was seeded third going into the event but shaved eighty seven hundredths of a second to win the event and break his previous personal best.

At the meet, Chang anchored the 200-yard Medley Relay and competed with his teammates, Luke Denver Moore, Joe Strizhak and Aidan Smires, finishing in 12th place after cutting over 2 seconds from their seed time with a final finish of 1:51.08.

Following the team relay, Chang competed in the 50-yard Free in which he was seeded 4th but was also able to shave time and earn a 2nd place finish with a time of 22.06 seconds, coming narrowly thirty three hundredths of a second behind the lead.

Chang’s performance qualified him for the 2018 NJSIAA State Individual Championships - Meet of Champions, in March. This past January, he competed at the 2017 Monmouth County Swimming Championships, finishing 2nd in both the 50-yard and 100-yard Free events.
