Coach Tom Moriau Court Dedicated

On Saturday, Feb. 3, 2018, Ranney School dedicated the basketball court in Gerhard Pavilion for Athletics as Coach Tom Moriau Court in honor of the beloved coach and mentor. For nearly 30 years, Tom Moriau led the Panthers on and off the court, teaching valuable life lessons to generations of Panther athletes and alumni. Coach Moriau received many accolades during his tenure at Ranney School including being inducted into the Panther Athletics Hall of Fame in 2013 and the Cum Laude Society as an honoree member in 2005. Over 100 attended the dedication event including students, alumni, faculty and colleagues (current and past), friends and family. Coach Moriau was accompanied by his wife and two children.

Faculty member and parent of two Ranney alumni Kate Greenberg said during her presentation, “I know I speak for all the parents of Ranney athletes when I say thank you. Thank you for providing a safe, caring and supportive place for our children to learn the sometimes hard lessons of defeat as well as the joys of victory and for the lasting impact you had on our children. No parent ever forgets the good a person does for their children.”

Head of School Dr. John Griffith, Physical Education faculty Barbara Bongiovanni, Eileen McEnery and Anna Lazic, and members of the girls’ basketball team also shared their fond memories of Coach Moriau.  Alumnus Brian Bolante ’96, Bolante Photography, produced a series of commemorative photos of Coach Moriau on the Ranney basketball court.  A 40x60 print of Coach Moriau walking by his name on the court was presented during the ceremony and is now mounted in the renovated Schmelz Lobby of the GPA. Coach Moriau was given the commemorative photos  as a gift along with a plaque that reads: Coach Moriau Court. Dedicated in honor of Tom Moriau for inspiring Ranney’s Panthers since 1988. We thank him for his legacy as an Athletic Director, Coach, and Alumni Director. This plaque, along with Coach’s name on the court, is installed in the gym as a lasting tribute to Coach Moriau.

Following the dedication ceremony guests gathered in Schmelz Lobby to socialize, share stories, and reminisce.  Ranney alumna Marilyn Schlossbach ’82 of the Marilyn Schlossbach Group, catered the event providing creative and festive fare in honor of the celebration.
