Eight Middle school thespians from Ranney School attended the 2018 NJ Junior Thespian Festival this past Saturday at Toms River High School North: Jackie Belkin '22, Claire Farren '24, Michael Guiliano '23, Maya Jacoby '22, Rowan Johnson '23, Kiri Patient '23, Megan Pongrac '22, and Hazel Smith-Foley '22.
Representing Ranney Middle School's Jr. Thespian Troupe #88360, these eight students presented a 10 minute "showcase" for this year's MS Musical - Once Upon a Mattress. They performed in front of 250+ attendees and received a "Certificate of Excellence in Showcase" for their performance.
The daylong event included workshops and activities designed around this year's festival theme - "Theatre Around the World." Students took workshops in Improvisation, Physical Theatre, Speech & Voice, and Music. In addition, four students competed in the Individual Events (IE) portion of the day:
Solo Musical Theatre - Maya Jacoby and Megan Pongrac
Solo Monologue - Kiri Patient and Jackie Belkin
Both Maya and Jackie were recognized by the adjudicators as "Superior" in their category and celebrated at the end of the day.
As Junior State Thespian Officers for 2017 - 2018, Maya and Kiri were honored along with the board members for their contributions to the planning, organization, and running of this year's festival.
Also, Ranney School supplied the "African" exhibit and activity in the "World Showcase," where students were encouraged to take a "selfie" in the land of "The Lion King" and move on to visit continents and explore "Theatre Around the World."
