The Arts at Ranney

At Ranney School, expression is a crucial everyday element of a balanced education, helping us define who we are, see things in exciting new ways and communicate important ideas. With exceptional instructors and impressive facilities, our programs in drama, music, visual arts, public speaking and creative writing are designed to nurture the full range of artistic talent in every child. In every grade level, Ranney’s arts curriculum combines a broad foundation in the history and theory of art, music and drama with rigorous instruction in technique. It is complemented by an eclectic array of extracurricular opportunities on stage and in the studio. The result is a vibrant, creative community in which artistic achievement is valued as highly as academic and athletic performance.

From photography and painting to glass fusing and 3D printing, one can always find the work of Ranney artists on display in one of our 3 campus galleries. Students, faculty and alums also regularly exhibit their works in local libraries, community centers and other local galleries. Learn more about our Visual Arts program.

Over half of our students participate in orchestra, band, chorus, forensics or drama programs. Each year, the school produces four Broadway-style productions and multiple concerts for the school and community. Learn more about our Performing Arts drama and music programs.

Hear first-hand from current Ranney School parents about the value of a Ranney education while having the opportunity to ask questions in an intimate setting. Parent-hosted coffees are held throughout the year in key locations throughout Monmouth and Ocean Counties. Read more here and contact our Admissions Team to sign up.

Ranney Coffee Houses

Throughout the school year, our talented students perform on stage in our intimate, black-box-style Commons Theater as part of division-level Coffee Houses. The Lower School holds one Coffee House per year, while the Middle & Upper divisions hold one in the fall and another in the late winter/early spring. Coffee Houses are open to the public.

Parents, faculty, and student peers are always blown away by the incredible voices, instrumentation, and overall musicianship of our student community—don’t miss out on these nights of individual and group performances (plus, occasional surprise faculty performances)! Students can sign up to perform about two weeks in advance through Mrs. Geene (Fifth Grade), Mr. Doyle (Middle School) and the Tri-M Music Honor Society (Upper School).

Acts include instrument or vocal solos, musical/instrument groups, poetry readings, monologue readings, short scenes, and dances. Coffee Houses provide a unique opportunity for students to showcase their talents in front of their family members, faculty and peers, and to work one-on-one with Ranney Performing Arts teachers and our student-led tech crew.
