Technology Student Association Competes in State Conference

On Saturday, May 3, the Ranney School chapter of the Technology Student Association competed in its first-ever state conference at The College of New Jersey.

Six Ranney students competed in five events:
  • DJ Chauhan '26 and Avi Rao '27 competed in Technology Problem Solving. (Avi filled in for Winston Garcia '27, who was unable to attend.)
  • Jonathan Stubbs '26 competed in Music Production.
  • Aiden Wang '25 competed in CAD Engineering.
  • Daniel Zheng '26 competed in Data Science and Analytics.
  • Avi Rao '27 competed in Prepared Presentation.
Students worked hard all year long preparing for these events, but knew we were facing stiff competition from teams across the state, especially as a new team.

"Please congratulate all of the members of our team for their perseverance and courage confronting new challenges," said advisor Dr. Sam Brannon. "We were overwhelmed at the award ceremony to receive first place in Technology Problem Solving!"

In this event, participants worked together to design, build, and test solutions to an engineering problem announced on-site.

On Saturday, DJ and Avi were tasked with constructing a device to convey banana candies across a distance to a simulated monkey. Judges appreciated the elegance of their slingshot/sleigh design that allowed a much greater degree of accuracy than other teams' designs.
