Ranney School Celebrates National Merit Commended Scholars, Semifinalists, and AP Scholars

Ranney School proudly announces that two students were recognized as National Merit Semifinalists by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) in the 2026 competition, and six seniors were named National Merit Commended Scholars by the NMSC.

George Dohrenwend ‘26 and Reilly Moini ‘26 were recognized as National Merit Semifinalists in the 2026 competition. Six seniors were named National Merit Commended Scholars by the NMSC: Jason Meng ‘26, Sophia Neff ‘26, Annabel Sparano ‘26, Jonathan Stubbs ‘26, Alexander Szeremeta ‘26, and Daniel Zheng ‘26.

Commended Scholars are honored for their exceptional academic promise, placing among the top 50,000 students nationwide of the more than 1.3 million who entered the competition by taking the 2024 PSAT/NMSQT. Semifinalists represent less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors and are the highest-scoring entrants in each state. They now have the opportunity to advance to Finalist standing and compete for more than $26 million in scholarships to be awarded in the spring of 2026.

Advanced Placement Scholars

In addition to the National Merit recognitions, Ranney students in the Classes of 2025, 2026, and 2027 earned distinction in the College Board’s AP Scholar program. A total of 107 Ranney students were recognized across three levels of achievement:
  • Class of 2025 (recent graduates): 13 AP Scholars, 7 AP Scholars with Honor, and 37 AP Scholars with Distinction
  • Class of 2026 (current seniors): 14 AP Scholars, 18 AP Scholars with Honor, and 16 AP Scholars with Distinction
  • Class of 2027 (current juniors): 1 AP Scholar and 1 AP Scholar with Honor
The AP Scholar program recognizes students who demonstrate college-level achievement on multiple Advanced Placement exams. Students may be named AP Scholars for earning scores of 3 or higher on three or more exams; AP Scholars with Honor for achieving scores of 3 or higher on at least four exams with an average score of 3.25 or higher across all tests; or AP Scholars with Distinction for earning scores of 3 or higher on at least five exams with an average score of 3.5 or higher.
