Ranney has several alumni student-athletes competing at a high level in college this season! A few of those have been in the news recently:
Sarah Hughes ‘23 is a junior guard on the Bates College women’s basketball team. The Bobcats captured the NESCAC Tournament Championship on March 1, earning an automatic bid to the NCAA DIII Women’s Basketball Tournament. The Bobcats will host the United States Merchant Marine Academy in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on March 6. Hughes was also named First Team All-NESCAC for her play during the 2026 season.
Hughes, a multi-sport athlete at Ranney lettered in basketball, track & field, and lacrosse and was also a member of the National Honors Society and the National Athletic Honors Society while at Ranney School.
In addition to her success on the court at Bates, Hughes is a double major in Math and Economics.
Daren Chen ‘25 is a freshman at Georgetown University and is already making an impact on the men’s swimming and diving team. Daren helped his 400 free relay team capture first with a time of 2:55.38 at the Big East Championship. The Hoyas won the overall BIG EAST Men’s Swimming and Diving Championship, their fifth-straight BIG EAST title.
Daren was named to the All-BIG EAST team in the 400-free relay and the 100-back.
During his time at Ranney, Daren became the all time most decorated Ranney swimmer capturing four-straight shore conference tournament titles and back-to-back state titles at the Meet of Champions in the 200IM.
Ryan Costello ‘24 has already won an NCAA DI Baseball National Championship after spending his freshman year in Baton Rouge with LSU Tigers baseball. He is now at the University of Maryland, where he is starting at First Base.
As a redshirt-freshman at Maryland, Ryan recorded a grand slam, three runs with two hits, one walk, and five RBI against Wagner on Feb. 28. A few days before that, he recorded three hits with a double, one run scored and two RBI against Delaware. He had two home runs with three RBI against Louisiana, and recorded two RBI with a home run against Georgetown. His first home run was a three-run shot against UNCW. In that game, he recorded two hits with an RBI-double. Currently, Costello leads all college Freshman with 7 Home Runs so far this season.
While at Ranney, Ryan helped the Panthers capture their first-ever Monmouth County Title, advanced for the first time ever to the Shore Conference Championship, and led the Shore Conference in home runs. Ryan was named a Perfect Game All-American and was the No. 2 ranked first baseman in the country.
AJ Gracia ‘23, who is currently a junior at the University of Virginia, has been named to the
Golden Spikes Watch List, the award for the best college baseball player in America.
While at Ranney, AJ led the Panthers to their first ever state title, Monmouth County title, and he was named the
NJ.Com Baseball Player of the Year for the state of New Jersey. AJ was also named an All-American by Perfect Game.
Haley Poser ‘25 and the Lafayette women’s basketball team finished its regular season with a 65-44 win over Colgate and are now preparing for the Patriot League Tournament Quarterfinals this Saturday against Army.
Haley has appeared in all 27 games, starting in three during her freshman season at Lafayette. She scored a season-high 16 points against St Peters on Nov. 13.
Haley is majoring in Psychology at Lafayette. During her time at Ranney, Haley was a three-sport athlete, lettering in soccer, basketball, and lacrosse. She was a four-year starter for the Ranney girls’ soccer team, and is the first ever Ranney women’s basketball player to sign with a Division I women’s basketball program. Haley hit the coveted 1,000 point basketball milestone during her junior year.
