Ranney US Chorus Performs with All Shore Chorus

Please join me in congratulating Vincent Bai '20 (Tenor 2), Siobhan Jones '21 (Alto 1) and Frank Yang '21 (Bass 1) on their performance this past Saturday, Feb. 1 with the 57th Annual NJ All Shore Chorus. After working several weeks on challenging choral literature under the direction of Mrs. Megan Wolff-Forbeck (Director of Choirs at Allentown High School), they presented a wonderful concert for family, friends, and choral educators from New Jersey.

The choral selections varied in style and difficulty - from Gospel to Classical to Contemporary and everything in between, in 4 to 12 part harmonies.  It was impressive to hear 118 students from 23 Schools throughout Monmouth and Ocean Counties making "a joyful noise" and receiving standing ovations for their impressive choral sound.

Especially rousing was their rendition of "Papa Loko", arranged by Sten Kallman. Based on a Traditional Haitian song about an old and respected Vodou Spirit, it was fun and energetic and my favorite selection of the evening. Vincent Bai's favorite was "Sweet Rivers" by Shawn Kirchner, in which he got the chance to sing the melody for a change (a rare occurrence for a Tenor 2!)

The NJ All Shore Chorus will perform a second time on Saturday, February 8 at 4:00 PM at the First Presbyterian Church, 118 W. Main Street, Freehold NJ. Tickets are $12.00 at the door.
