Samantha Abdelbarry '22

The Ranney School Leadership Institute was a pivotal experience for me as I went into my senior year. I went into Field Hockey preseason, not knowing how I could use my position as an upperclassman in the most beneficial way for not only me as captain but for my team as a whole. Coach Mac and the teachers involved allowed us to have a comfortable space to show our flaws or weak spots as leaders, and help us elevate ourselves for the years to come. I taught my team that we all needed to work with one heartbeat, as we all worked to achieve the same goal. We worked day after day on staying mission-focused and making sure we were prepared for every situation. And the most influential thing for me was knowing that you need to trust your team through and through. Without a doubt, whether it's sports, class council, or clubs, you must trust your team, and you cannot stand alone as a leader. You are a leader because you were chosen to better your team. That single change in mindset has allowed me to be a better listener and partner to all of my teammates, whether on the field or in the classroom. Thank you so much, Coach Mac and Ranney for this great opportunity!
