Connecticut College Dean Addresses the Evolving Landscape of College Admissions
The Ranney School College Office hosted Martha C. Merrill, dean of Admission & Financial Aid at Connecticut College, New London, CT, a presentation entitled, “The Evolving Landscape of College Admissions”.
The Ranney School College Office hosted Martha C. Merrill, dean of Admission & Financial Aid at Connecticut College, New London, CT, on November 12, for a very informative presentation entitled, “The Evolving Landscape of College Admissions”. Addressing an audience of prospective college students and parents, Ms. Merrill discussed the college admissions process from her perspective as a college admission professional, focusing on what colleges look for in student applicants, the importance of finding the “right fit” when choosing a college, and the challenge of funding college in the current financial climate. Her presentation was followed by a Q & A session, where Ms. Merrill addressed many of the concerns and questions posed by Ranney parents and students.
Ms. Merrill has served in various administrative roles at Connecticut College since 1988, including acting dean of Admission, director of Admission and director of International Admission. She holds a B.A. in psychology from Connecticut College and completed the Harvard University Graduate School of Education’s Management Development Program in 2001. An expert in the field of college admissions, she has presented at numerous conferences on topics ranging from, “International Diversity on Campus: Is it Worth the Cost?” to “Effectively Counseling the College Essay”.
