On Friday, February 20, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., Ranney will welcome the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra (NJSO) back to campus for an educational outreach concert and an instrumental master class with Middle and Upper School music students. This is NJSO’s second visit to Ranney School, as they performed for our students in 2007 as well.
This year, NJSO brings its’ REACH (Resources for Education and Community Harmony) to the Roberts’ stage in RSPA Panther Hall. This quintet of professional symphonic musicians, including violin, viola, cello, flute, and percussion, will perform in a concert specially designed for students. The program will include light classical chamber music, such as works by Mozart, Rossini, and Barber, with each piece interspersed with musicians’ lectures, adding to the educational experience.
Following the concert, music students will have the opportunity to play for the professional artists in a master class setting, where small group ensembles will have the chance to work closely with and ask questions of the guest artists.
New Jersey Symphony Orchestra Musicians:
Violin: Fatima Aaziza
Viola: Martin Andersen
Cello: Stephen Fang
Flute: Wendy Stern
Percussion: Jim Thoma
NJSO created the REACH program in 1998 to engage communities in a more direct musical experience. Ensembles have performed throughout all 21 New Jersey counties in a wide variety of settings.
