It’s “Caps Off” to Ranney’s Bottle Cappers

Ranney School has placed 2nd in the Clean Ocean Action bottle cap competition as well as received special recognition as a founding school for the project.
Ranney School has placed 2nd in the Clean Ocean Action bottle cap competition as well as received special recognition as a founding school for the project. Lower School students first began collecting the caps in October as part of a contest sponsored by the environmental group Clean Ocean Action (COA) and the beauty products company Aveda. Several students brought the idea of collecting non-recyclable caps to science teacher Jennifer McDermott as an environmental project – a way to keep non-biodegradable caps out of landfills and bring awareness to the importance of both recycling and limiting the use of plastics. The idea took off, and now, as the end of the school year approaches, has resulted in an incredible 200,349 caps being collected by students here on campus, at home and through local businesses.

Ms. McDermott accepted an award from COA this past weekend on behalf of Ranney School and all the students who worked so hard to collect an astounding number of caps. The award is now proudly on display in the Lower School reception area.
