Ranney School offers high quality athletic programs that challenge student-athletes to reach their potential in terms of fitness and endurance, self-discipline and self-confidence, leadership and teamwork. The mission of the Athletic Department includes the total development of our student-athletes while providing a strong, competitive athletic program. While competition and winning are important, promoting sportsmanship, commitment and dedication is a top goal of the athletic program and begins in each team’s early season practices.
Our fall teams have begun preparation for the upcoming season. In all sports, pre-season practice sets the foundation on which to build a winning team. The aim is to develop individual and team goals, as well as a solid training program. Each student-athlete brings individual strengths to a team, and pre-season is the perfect opportunity to identify and develop those talents. Sport specific skills are a main focus of pre-season, but other core fundamentals to focus on include speed, agility, strength, flexibility and endurance. As Ranney student-athletes begin to practice together, they have the opportunity to develop these skills, as well as teamwork, chemistry, and leadership in a competitive environment.
Our fall sport coaches are also hard at work preparing for games. Athletic Director Tom Moriau says, “Because there is not a lot of time during the pre-season, coaches, must do things with a purpose. Pre-season practices are designed to challenge our athletes to reach their limits and potential in terms of skill, knowledge, endurance, loyalty and confidence.”
With opening competitions only a few weeks away, the Panthers are motivated and eager to get started. Check out the boys’ and girls’ soccer teams at Ranney on Monday, August 31, when they take on Calvary in scrimmage action at 4:00 p.m.
