From children’s books and mystery novels to cookbooks and the classics, this year’s annual Ranney School Parents’ Association (RSPA) Book Fair had something for everyone. The fair drew a steady and enthusiastic crowd as students and parents canvassed the Panther Hall lobby on the lookout for an interesting “read” or to just purchase an early holiday gift. Proceeds from the four-day event, held from October 26-29, will benefit the Searle and Paulus libraries.
Earlier in the week, Beginners and Lower School students learned how creative ideas blossom into writing, re-writing and eventually, into full bloom as a book, thanks to a visit from popular children’s book author, Kay Winters. Among her many titles include, The Teeny Tiny Ghost, Abe Lincoln: The Boy Who Loved Books and Colonial Voices – Hear Them Speak, among others.
During her visit to the Searle Library, Mrs. Winters held an interactive assembly with mixed grade levels that included a Power Point presentation that began with her childhood up to the present, highlighting her early home and life experience and how they shaped her writing. The day was a unique and exciting opportunity for younger students to sit down with a ‘real’ author and learn more about the creative writing process.
