Ranney Senior Earns Heisman Award Recognition

Ranney senior Christopher Tomasetta has been named a New Jersey state finalist in the 2009 Wendy’s High School Heisman Award competition.

Ranney senior Christopher Tomasetta has been named a New Jersey state finalist in the 2009 Wendy’s High School Heisman Award competition. He was chosen from among a selected pool of 1,020 state finalists nationwide (20 from each state plus Washington, DC).

The Wendy’s High School Heisman (WHSH) program, awarded in conjunction with the collegiate Heisman, celebrates the achievements of the nation’s top high school seniors both in and out of the classroom. Just as the collegiate Heisman is known for being the top award in college football, the WHSH award is known for being the most prestigious award at the high school level. Created in 1994, the WHSH program has celebrated youth excellence for 15 years. The award encourages future leadership by recognizing well-balanced lifestyles at an early age.

In addition to an outstanding academic record, Tomasetta has also served as captain of Ranney’s cross country team for two years and participates in swimming and baseball.

Said Ranney Head of School Dr. Lawrence S. Sykoff, “This award is yet another example of what our students
embody – hard work, dedication and an outstanding record both on and off the field.”

As a state finalist, Tomasetta will receive a Wendy’s gift card, bronze medal, and a Heisman patch. From the pool of 1,020 state finalists, 102 students will be selected as state winners (one male and one female from each state plus Washington, DC) later this month.
