Ranney Fencers Medal at NJSIAA District Championships

Ranney fencers gave outstanding performances at the NJSIAA District Championships, held this past Saturday, January 30.

Ranney fencers gave outstanding performances at the NJSIAA District Championships, held this past Saturday, January 30. The competition included both team and individual events. Against a deep field of experienced fencers in one of the toughest districts in the state, the men's squads competed solidly, finishing 7th (foil), 7th (saber), and 10th (epee). The saber and foil squads made significant progress over last year, in a district that contains three fencing powerhouses.

 

Three sophomore Ranney fencers made it to the individual finals: Thomas Hearne, Patrick Glodkowski, and Sam Tkach. After a long and exhausting day, during which the fencers fenced 20 bouts, the results were in: Sam took the gold medal in epee, Patrick took the bronze medal in saber, and Thomas finished 9th in an exceptionally challenging foil field.


This was a major first for Ranney's fencing team: three finalists, the first District Gold Medal, and a Bronze Medal! Sam and Patrick will now move on to the NJSIAA Individual State Championship, to be held on March 13, at Rider University.
