Markar Krikorian was recently named Pop Warner Second Team All-American Scholar for 2009. Markar, a fifth grade student at Ranney, played Pop Warner football for the Rumson Bulldogs for the first time last year. He is the only fifth grade Rumson Bulldog to make one of the two All-American teams; one other area student also earned an Honorable Mention.
Pop Warner recognizes and awards scholar athletes across the nation for their outstanding performance in the classroom. Being recognized as a Pop Warner All-American Scholar means you are among the top 2 percent of all 400,000 Pop Warner players nationwide.
With close to 10,000 applications, applicants are judged by their academic performance, community activities and other achievements.
Said Ranney Head of School Dr. Lawrence S. Sykoff, “We are extremely proud that one of our young students has been selected for such a prestigious honor. Since Ranney’s inception in 1960, our mission has been about educating the whole child and placing equal emphasis on developing the body as well as the mind. Markar is a perfect example of our core philosophy.”
