Ranney’s First College Fair Draws Hundreds of Students

RSPA Panther Hall was a buzz on Monday, April 19, when representatives from 56 of the country’s most prestigious colleges and universities gathered in Panther Hall to meet and greet hundreds of Ranney Upper School students as they embark on the college process.

RSPA Panther Hall was a buzz on Monday, April 19, when representatives from 56 of the country’s most prestigious colleges and universities gathered in Panther Hall to meet and greet hundreds of Ranney Upper School students as they embark on the college process.

As is the case with all of the Upper School College Guidance events, the goal of Monday’s College Fair was to help each student find the “right match” in choosing a college. College planning actually begins in ninth grade with school led trips to colleges around the east coast, and countless one-on-one meetings with students and parents. The College Fair provided an additional opportunity for students to speak with college admission professionals, hone their skills in speaking about their interests, and investigate the variety of options that will exist for them now and in the future. “In the college process knowledge is power”, explains Joe Tweed, Assistant Head of the Upper School and Dean of College Guidance. “Nights like this allow our families time to gather information and ask thoughtful questions. They are invaluable.”

“Because of this fantastic facility in RSPA Panther Hall, we had a terrific opportunity to offer this program both to Ranney students and the external community”, adds Myra Simpson, Director of College Guidance. And so, the eleventh grade classes from the five public school academies for Monmouth County, including Academy of Allied Health, Biotechnology HS, Communications HS, High Tech, and MAST were also invited to join Ranney families for the College Fair.

At the end of the evening the college representatives seemed truly impressed with the event and the caliber of students they spoke with. All are looking forward to next year’s College Fair.
