The Panther Hall gallery was overflowing with excitement on Tuesday evening, April 27 as members of the Ranney community came out to view the works of eleven talented Ranney students at this year’s AP Studio Art Exhibit.
The exhibition was a remarkable and diverse display of paintings and drawings by this year’s graduating AP Studio Art students. Ten seniors and one junior showcased their artistic flair in an exhibition that offered a unique glimpse of varying thematic works that rabged from Mary Breton’s acrylic paintings depicting the role of faith and spirituality to Christopher Tomasetta’s works that addressed the world’s unsung heroes- manual laborers.
This year’s artists were Ross Bernstein, Mary Breton, Chelsea Coniaris, Stephen D’Onofrio, Linda Dayan, Michelle Drappi, Jeremy Lessing, Taylor Swanner, Christopher Tomasetta, Ben Weakley, and John Woolley. Each student begins an art portfolio in their junior year in the Honors Advanced Portfolio class where they create 12 works of art that incorporate diverse mediums. In their senior year, they are asked to complete their portfolio with 12 works of art relating to a theme of their choice.
Ave Maria Walwark, who teaches the AP Studio Art course at Ranney and coordinated this year’s exhibition, said every student demonstrated a high level of achievement. “Their completed portfolios reflect obvious skill level in the manipulation of their chosen medium, as well as the ability to embrace the creative process.”
