On September 7, following one of the hottest summers on record, students returned to their cool classrooms and the familiar routine that comes with the beginning of the school year.
The first day of school was marked by warm temperatures, blue skies and smiling faces as hundreds of Lower, Middle and Upper School students walked into their respective divisions and headed for their first official day of classes. Students had the opportunity to meet their new teachers and greet old friends, as well as participate in several welcoming assemblies where they were welcomed by Dr. Lawrence Sykoff, Head of School, student leaders and Division Heads and administrators and plans were laid out for the year ahead.
Next week, Upper and Middle School students will take part in the traditional retreats from Baltimore, Washington D.C. and Philadelphia to Boston and N.Y. state, where they will visit the historic sites as well as participate in team building exercises and physical challenges.
Gradually, students will settle back into academic life as the year progresses. But 2010-2011 promises to be filled with exciting new activities and opportunities for students of all ages and interests. It’s a great beginning as Ranney School moves towards its second half century.
