With yesterday’s momentous varsity boys’ soccer team 5-2 win over South Amboy, coach Mike Ling achieved an impressive and distinctive accomplishment – his 100th career soccer win at Ranney School.
As a head coach, Mike bases his team’s success on being competitive each year and making sure his players achieve all that they can, both on and off the field. “He stresses to his players to be the best they can and is proud of each and every one he has coached during the past 11 years,” says Tom Moriau, Director of Athletics.
Mike has built a strong consistent program and his commitment is evident not only in the success he and his players have attained but in the length of his tenure as coach. Adds Mr. Moriau, “What I found very impressive was how excited the kids were for Mike. They were so happy, many wearing “100 wins” tee shirts under their jerseys.”
Even more impressive was the excitement that Mike showed as he shared this accomplishment with his players.
“To Mike, it was more important for the team to win the game for state tournament seeding purposes, than as a personal achievement,” comments Mr. Moriau. “He takes a lot of pride in his program. I have seen other coaches come and go at different schools but Mike was never here just to get his feet wet and move on. Mike has developed a first class program and I know all of us wish him the best of luck in moving towards his next 100 wins.”
Congratulations Coach Ling! We’re very proud of you and all your players.
