Middle School Hosts Fall Sports Award Ceremony

The Ranney School Athletic Department hosted its Middle School Fall Sports Award Ceremony on November 11, 2010. In keeping with Ranney’s student-centered philosophy, the Department allowed every Middle School student, and not just Middle School athletes, to attend and show their spirit. A supportive show of parents also joined in the ceremony at Panther Hall.

The program began with a pledge to the flag led by Cross Country runner and captain Sean Callahan ’15. As the audience took its seats, Ranney’s Director of Athletics, Thomas Moriau, approached the podium to welcome all attendees. Addressing the audience, he applauded the Middle School class for its active involvement in the Athletic Program and encouraged those who did not partake in a fall sport this season, to come out next year.

Coach Ian McNamara then approached the podium to introduce tennis player Alexis Auletta ’15, who spoke of her athletic experiences at Ranney. During a very touching speech, Alexis noted that her coaches have stood by her from start to finish. “Ranney Coaches have supported, encouraged and inspired me to do my best, to never give up, to challenge myself—and to be the best person I can be,” said Alexis.

Next, amidst rhythmic applause from every team, student and parent, each coach introduced their teams’ members, presented certificates and awarded trophies to those individual athletes who earned the coach’s praise, portrayed sportsmanship throughout the season, improved significantly or were deemed most valuable player. Afterwards, the audience viewed a season in review sports video directed by Ranney’s Communications Department.

Closing the afternoon’s ceremony was eighth-grade girls’ soccer player Kristen Guyler. Like her fellow classmate Alexis Auletta, Kristen also thanked Ranney’s coaches for their hard work and dedication to each and every student-athlete throughout her time at the school.
