Grace Farren Earns Recognition in Prudential Spirit of Community Awards Competition

A Ranney School senior from Manasquan, 17-year-old Grace Farren, was named a top runner-up in the 2011 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards competition, honoring young Americans for outstanding acts of community service. As one of six top runners-up from the state of New Jersey, Grace will receive an engraved Distinguished Finalist bronze medallion in the spring.

Now in its 16th year, the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program is conducted by Prudential Financial in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals or NASSP. Grace obtained this prestigious award after raising more than $17,000 to benefit the Hazlet-based “180 Turning Lives Around” shelter for abused women last year. The founder of “Grace’s Gift,” a charity existing solely to benefit the nonprofit organization serving victims of domestic abuse and sexual violence throughout Monmouth County, Grace first designed and sold T-shirts with the saying: “I am loved, I am respected, I have a purpose, I am strong.” Grace later organized and hosted a benefit concert at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park on October 17, 2010, with more than 250 people in attendance.

After spending numerous hours fundraising for “180 Turning Lives Around,” Grace also qualified for the President’s Volunteer Service Award, recognizing Americans of all ages who volunteer significant time to serving their communities and the country, for which she received an award certificate and letter of congratulation from the president. Grace’s efforts are a true example of what one person can accomplish if motivated enough to succeed.

Stephen Triano Named a National Merit Scholarship Program Finalist on February 1, 2011

Senior Stephen Triano of Lincroft learned in September 2010 that he qualified as a Semifinalist in the National Merit Scholarship Program. Just last week, Stephen was notified that he was one of 15,000 other students throughout the nation selected to be a program Finalist. If named one of 8,400 Merit Scholarship® winners, Stephen will receive word in March 2011.

This NJ Scholars Program nominee, Varsity cross country, winter track and outdoor track athlete, and Habitat for Humanity treasurer has done each and every member of our New Jersey community proud.

Lower and Middle School Students Recognized by Johns Hopkins University’s Center for Talented Youth

Since 1979, The Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth (CTY) has conducted an annual Talent Search aimed at honoring Elementary and Middle School students who have distinguished themselves as the most academically gifted adolescents in the country. After undergoing special testing through Johns Hopkins’ Talent Search program, many Ranney School students were recognized at 2010 Award Ceremonies throughout New Jersey.

Hosted at various colleges such as Rutgers and Rowan University throughout the month of October, students attended award ceremonies where they received acclaim for their many academic achievements. Not only does the CTY Talent Search give families a better idea of their child’s academic talents, but it also qualifies students for CTY summer programs, distance education courses and other resources catering to their advanced academic abilities. In 2009, approximately 57,000 students from over 120 countries participated in the Talent Searches offered through CTY. CTY Executive Director, Lea Ybarra, believes that parents and teachers lead students on their journey to academic success and self-discovery.

At Ranney School, skilled faculty and staff members shape students into future leaders, using knowledge and passion as a tool that inspires pupils to excel beyond the classroom. With is sole mission being to offer quality educational programs that make a significant difference in student’s lives, Ranney School is proud to educate some of the most academically promising students worldwide.
