A Week of Lower School Performances
In celebration of the support students receive from their parents each and every day, Ranney’s Lower School kicked-off Parents’ Week on Wednesday, May 4, 2011. Filled with performances that showcased a divine love for mom and dad, the week began with in-school assemblies — denoted by grade level — and concluded with a school musical entitled Captain Louie, Jr. on Friday evening.
During assemblies organized by Assistant Head of the Lower School Shana Lindsey, students, Beginners through grade five, took to the stage in RSPA Panther Hall to entertain their families with song and dance. While members of Ranney’s Pre-K and Beginners’ classes solely relied on their voices when performing the Jackson 5’s “Rockin’ Robin” and Barney’s “Mr. Sun” in perfect harmony, members from grades two and three also used instruments. Equipped with triangles, tambourines, xylophones and percussion sticks, second and third grade general music students filled Panther Hall with cheery songs and big smiles on Thursday afternoon. Matthew Callahan ’13, who accompanied the group on his guitar during a third grade performance of “This Land is Your Land” by Woody Guthrie, also saw his debut as an opportunity to spend quality time with his little brother Michael ’20.
As Friday evening rolled around, Ranney’s fourth and fifth students “took flight” during a performance of the musical Captain Louie, Jr., which presents the story of a young boy (Carmine Mastrokostas ’18) who seeks refuge within his own imagination as a means of coping with his feelings when moving to a new neighborhood. Directed by Lilly Torrente and Connie Congemi, the show proved a huge success. All left the hall beaming with smiles and pride as “Louie” and his Old Gang, which included Alexander Roberts ’18 as Julio, Abigail Granata ’18 as Broom, Madison Chamas ’18 as Mouse, Amanda Serrapica ’18 as Cat, Gerald Johnson ’18 as Ziggy and Jacqueline Erler ’18 as Flower, lit up the stage. Without help and support from "Louie’s" New Gang comprised of Victoria Cuciniello ’18 as Vanessa, Meilina Amaral ’18 as Meredith, Sarah Casucci ’18 as Sue, Sydney Lennon ’18 as Selena and Rachel Chalnick ’18 as Rosina, “Louie” would not have learned valuable life lessons during his journey.
Congratulations to our little performers, who gave it their all during Lower School Parents’ Week. You’ve made the Ranney community very proud.
