A Great Day to be a “Kid”

It was a great day to be a “kid” as summer day campers spent Friday, July 15 riding ponies, feeding baby goats, ducks and cows, and learning all there is to know about the wide world of reptiles!

Brought to Ranney by “Little Bit Ponies ‘n More,” campers spent their morning taking pony rides and petting or feeding a large array of farm animals on the school’s Great Lawn. After lunch, it was off to the Commons Blackbox Theater, where the kids then watched a Rizzo Reptile and Wildlife program.

During the program, eager campers had an opportunity to meet Ragoo the Frog and Licorice the Scorpion. They also learned about the natural defenses, habitats and eating practices of an Alligator Snapping Turtle. Several audience members even held a Mexican King Snake.

Outside of camp and inside the classroom from July 11-22, Ranney's Summer Programs also offered an "Interactive Biology" course to life-science enthusiasts entering grades one through three. New this season, science came alive during the hands-on course that studied how living things behave and interact. The two-week class focused on scientific investigation as a means of unlocking the mysteries of diffusion and osmosis, as well as discovering the age of a fish and why earthworms surface in heavy rain.

Other science courses offered from July 25 until August 5 this summer include:
