MS Students Explore European History and Culture During Summer Overseas Expedition

The program known as ISCA has provided students from North and South America with a three-week summer camp experience across the UK for more than 25 years. Twelve students from Ranney School joined in the cultural and historical tradition this summer as they traveled with teacher Nancy King to the heart of England. Once there, they found a country full of not only an immense amount of information, but also memories and friendships to last a lifetime.

Beginning July 11, 2011, 92 students journeyed to Godalming, Surrey where they stayed at the 400-year-old boarding school known as Charterhouse — the country’s second oldest campus. When not traveling with counselors and chaperones through towns and museums in Winchester, Greenwich, Westminster or Portsmouth, the group also spent time playing several UK pastimes such as cricket, rugby and fives. The program’s itinerary also included a visit to the home of William Shakespeare, a day at the Didcot Railroad Museum and a trip to see the musical comedy Billy Elliot.

Although the group's journey ended on July 31, 2011, it will never forget the friendships forged and educational opportunities received all thanks to the ISCA and more importantly, Ranney. Personally exploring the history and culture of modern-day London brought class lessons to life as well as prepared sixth, seventh and eighth grade students for all that lies in store throughout the remainder of their educational experiences at Ranney School.
