Ranney to Host Concert with Grammy-Winning Vocalists

Music will fill RSPA Panther Hall when professional performers from the Grammy Award-winning vocal group known as the New York Voices join Ranney’s very own Upper School Chorus and Jazz ensemble on the Roberts Stage for a special guest concert on Friday, October 28, 2011.

Now celebrating its 22nd Anniversary, the New York Voices ensemble takes jazz to new levels as it offers productions infused with Brazilian, R&B, classical and pop. In addition to recording several CDs in collaboration with the “Count Basie Orchestra” and “Manhattan Transfer,” New York Voices has also appeared in live performances at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center and the Kennedy Center alongside jazz artists Ray Brown, Nancy Wilson, George Benson and the “Boston Pops.”

Other than attending a multitude of concerts and scheduled recording sessions, New York Voices can also be found working in the field of education as it holds workshops and clinics open to high school and college music students.

In what has become an annual tradition amongst the Ranney School Performing Arts Department, Friday evening’s special concert promises to present excellence in jazz vocal standards, and the art of group singing. Musical highlights infusing R&B, modern pop and Latin swing throughout the evening include solo instrumental performances, student instrumental ensemble pieces from pianist and vocalist Tor Miller ’12 and pianist Christa Dalmazio ’12, and several senior spotlight performances recognizing talent in veteran members like Evelyn Giovine ’12, Evan Glazman ’12 and Val Kharkover ’12 of the Upper School Chorus and Jazz ensemble, which will perform in tandem with the New York Voices.

The concert is free and open to the public. Doors open at 7:00 p.m., with an Upper and Middle School Art Exhibition entitled Fine Arts in Fall in RSPA Panther Hall Gallery prior to the event. Dessert and coffee will be available during intermission, and guests will have a chance to personally meet various performing artists after the show.

To reserve your place at this evening of music, please contact Tracy Mutchiga in the Special Events Office by phone at 732-542-4777, extension 1181, or by email at tmutchiga@ranneyschool.org.
