Beginners Meet the Head of School

Ranney’s youngest Panthers participated in a longstanding tradition on Thursday, November 17 as they walked — what they claimed was 10 miles — to the Upper and Middle School Academic Complex to visit with Head of School Dr. Lawrence S. Sykoff.

The school’s Beginners sat “crisscross apple sauce” in front of Dr. Sykoff, who read aloud the picture book entitled “Who Took the Cookie from the Cookie Jar?” illustrated by Viviana Garofoli. A favorite amongst all in attendance, the children also repeated the story’s main verse aloud as well as shared with Dr. Sykoff their eagerness for snowfall this winter.

Each class then took a tour of the Headmaster’s Suite, where every student received their very own teddy bear dressed in a blue and white Ranney t-shirt, and posed for photos with their new friend, Dr. Sykoff. For most Beginners, this day marked their first-ever trip to the “Big” School, which several of their older siblings also traveled to at the young age of three. Similar to past Beginners, many members from the Class of 2026 will see their Ranney bear and be reminded of the great people and facilities that await as they continue on their journey from the Lower to Middle to Upper School and beyond.
