Introducing a Holiday Concert Series - "From Classics to Pops"
In light of the holiday season, Ranney’s Jr. and Sr. Tri-M® Music Honor Societies will host a winter Concert Series in the festively decorated RSPA Panther Hall on December 13 and December 15, 2011.
Please join the Upper School and its musicians for holiday hits ranging from the “Classics to Pops” on Tuesday, December 13, when the Ranney Chamber Ensemble - directed by Performing Arts Teacher Dorothy Sobieski, D.M.A. - will also make its debut. Ranney instrumentalists will play classical works by Handel, Mozart and Saint-Saens. One very special piece to complement the evening of talented student-musicians will feature Christa Dalmazio ’12 playing Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 12, accompanied by the Ranney Chamber Players. In addition, student-guitarists Noah Goldstein ’14 and Sabrina Palazzolo ’14 will accompany the Upper School Chorus as they perform So This is Christmas by John Lennon.
Throughout the evening, Ranney’s Upper School Chorus - under the direction of Performing Arts Chair Tess Nielsen - will present several selections that also highlight talent in such faculty members as Middle School Music Teacher Lillianne Torrente at piano, and Lower School Teachers Lisa Geene and Dot Lippart on flute accompaniment. Closing the show will be the Upper School Jazz Band — directed by Performing Arts Teacher Kevin Cotter — which will present the audience with jazz standards in student arrangements, complete with solo performances.
Continuing on Thursday, December 15, Ranney’s Middle School musicians will take to the Robert’s stage for part two of the Performing Arts Department’s “From Classics to Pops” Holiday Concert Series. The evening will open with a preview of the Middle School’s upcoming musical “Beauty and the Beast,” which will take place on February 10 and 11, 2012. The show will then contain performances from the Middle School Band, Chorus and Orchestra performing such holiday favorites as Let it Snow, Carol of the Bells, Dream a Dream and Land of Our Dreams, with the latter two folk tunes featuring Sarah Killian ’18 on piano. The Jr. Tri-M Music Honor Society® is also pleased to share with the audience its community service project entailing grade-level “Penny Wars” to purchase musical “Toys for Tots.”
Both concerts within the series will begin at 7:00 pm on their respective evenings, and are free of charge and open to the public. On behalf of the Performing Arts Department and its students, we hope to see you there!
