Upper and Middle Schools Host Fun Week

After donating countless items and various funds to Holiday Express and other charities throughout New Jersey prior to their winter break, Ranney’s Middle and Upper School divisions experienced a week of fun complete with themed dress-down days, holiday treats and festive movies between December 12th and 16th, 2011.

The week began with a door decorating contest, as students sporting “Mix & Match” clothing used garland, crayons, wrapping paper and other miscellaneous objects to “deck the halls” of Ranney’s Upper School Academic Complex. Keeping in mind the objective of spreading holiday cheer across campus, the students created several awe-inspiring masterpieces. In the end, however, only four homerooms were chosen as winners, and will receive a regular dress-down day on Friday, January 6. They were as follows:

Most Humorous - Mrs. Fernandez’s Advisory
Most Original – Mr. Daly’s Advisory
Most Creative – Ms. Greenberg’s Advisory
Most Traditional – Srta. Gurman’s Advisory

Aside from making ice cream sundaes in the Dining Hall on “Flannel Day” — or Tuesday — the Upper School also drank hot chocolate and ate candy canes while wearing winter themed colors on Wednesday, December 14. Dressed in red, blue and black, the Middle School also enjoyed hot chocolate and candy canes, this time before heading to the Gerhard Pavilion for Athletics for an Upper School Dodge Ball Tournament on Friday afternoon, December 16. Balls flew as enthusiastic sixth and seventh grade students, along with the rest of the Middle and Upper School, cheered for their peers who participated in battles that featured sophomores against eighth graders, seniors versus juniors and so on.

Other fun activities hosted throughout the Upper School included a movie presentation of “Elf” and a dessert social during one Study Hall period. The fun continues for Ranney’s Middle School division, which will dress in its favorite professional, college, or national sports team's jersey this Thursday, January 5 as well as blue and white on Friday, January 6, 2012.
