Seniors Give Final Performance on Coffee House Stage

Students, faculty, family and friends spent the evening of Friday, January 13, seated in the school’s candlelit Commons as approximately 30 Upper School musicians and actors took part in the Performing Arts Department’s winter 2012 Coffee House. This very special event signified a bittersweet farewell to many of the evening’s performers who have attended Ranney’s Coffee House several times per year since age 12.
Students, faculty, family and friends spent the evening of Friday, January 13, seated in the school’s candlelit Commons as approximately 30 Upper School musicians and actors took part in the Performing Arts Department’s winter 2012 Coffee House.

During what would be the last out of many Coffee Houses performed at by students within the graduating Class of 2012, such sentimental songs included “All my Loving” sung by Hannah Simpson ’12 on the Ukelele, and “Hey Jude” performed by Jood Ani ’12 — accompanied by classmates Noah Goldstein ’14 and Christa Dalmazio ’12, and performing arts teacher Dr. Dorothy Sobieski. Also joining in on several performances were faculty and administrators including Performing Arts Chair Ms. Tess Nielsen and Head of School Dr. Lawrence S. Sykoff. All in all, various instruments used throughout the show included the viola, guitar, piano and harmonica.

Aside from hearing classic rock songs by Aerosmith (Jacqueline Lee ’15), Billy Joel (Brandon Flynn ’14) and Bob Dylan (Luciano Cioffi ’13), theatrical songs from Beauty and the Beast (Samantha Chiarello ’15) and West Side Story (George Timmins ’15), and modern-day songs made famous by artists Bruno Mars (Sabrina Palazzolo ’14) and Adele (Leah Chaise ’13), the evening also included some acting both on the stage and big screen. Following a short improvisational skit led by Elinor Haney ’14 and Noah Goldstein, who asked that the audience yell out “new choice” each time it wanted them to switch the topic, Conor Keenan ’13 also presented a highly suspenseful student film entitled Get the Courier.

Hosted by seniors Hannah Simpson, Sarah Bartosh and Christa Dalmazio, this special event signified a bittersweet farewell to many of the evening’s performers who have attended Ranney’s Coffee House several times per year since age 12. A very memorable ending to a career on the Commons Black Box Stage, the evening’s final act concluded as all performers joined in one last song and dance for family and friends.
