A final act from the Performing Arts Department’s winter concert series, the Lower School hosted a “From Classics to Pops” concert in RSPA Panther Hall on Thursday, January 19, 2012.
The evening began with several songs played by the Lower School’s Instrumental Band. Led by Director Kevin Cotter, the division’s 11-member Percussion Ensemble opened the show with its rendition of Drumsticks. Following various tunes such as Rolling Along and Split Decision from the Wind Ensemble, the Lower School Chorus then welcomed part II of the concert with D. & J. Perry’s Snowtime Fantasy.
Accompanying the Chorus on piano during such songs as Hot Chocolate! and Let It Shine was Chorus Director and General Music teacher Lisa Geene. New to Ranney this school year, Ms. Geene comes to Tinton Falls all the way from Ohio, where she taught at the Elementary School level for 16 years.
Singing and signing the song Peace I Leave With You, the 21-member Chorus was also joined by senior Sophia Lee on flute. Meanwhile, Christa Dalmazio ’12 accompanied Dr. Dorothy Sobieski’s String Ensemble on the piano during songs like Matthew’s March.
According to Assistant Head of the Lower School Shana Lindsey, this concert — the third in a trio of performances across all three divisions — was best put last because it not only shows where Upper and Middle School students like Sophia and Christa came from, but it also gives Ranney’s Lower School musicians something to aim for.
“I feel like the proud parent of all children on stage this evening,” said Lower Head of School and Associate Head for Academic Administration Patricia Marshall, who commended each musician for his or her dedication and commitment to the arts.
