LS Science Olympiad Team Wins Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals at Competition

Ranney’s Lower School Science Olympiad team — along with advisors Judy Salisbury, Jennifer Spiro and Rosemarie Grippo — traveled to Moorestown Friends School, where it secured several gold, silver and bronze medals as well as an overall fifth place finish on May 19, 2012.

Up against nine other teams spanning Elementary Schools throughout New Jersey, the newly formed Science Olympiad team from Ranney managed to earn a place in 12 of the 16 categories offered for competition. Among these fine performances was a first place finish obtained by students Anmol Anand ’19, Paul Cantave ’19 and Sathya Edamadaka ’19 who participated in the day’s “Water Rocket” event. Various students also took second in the following categories: “Calculator Contest,” “Weather or Not” and “Tennis Ball Catapult.”

Science Olympiad at the Lower School level urges its contestants to focus on problem solving methods that use backwards design, modeling underlying concepts in physics. To prepare for this competition, fourth and fifth grade Ranney students met year-round to work on their assigned projects in a lab setting.

Congratulations to the team, and all advisors for their hard work and dedication at Saturday’s competition. The results were as follows:
