Ranney School Remembers 9-11

As today marks the 11th anniversary of the 9/11 events, Ranney School will honor the bravery displayed by Americans by participating in a moment of silence at 9:03 a.m. across all three divisions. Grades 2-5 Middle School and Upper School will remember this historic day with a moment of silence, and these words by Upper School Head Paul Zanowski: “It is important that we, as a community, reflect on the lives that were lost that day, the wounds—physical and emotional—that have been experienced by those who were injured that day and the burden carried by all those people who lost loved ones…we are mindful of all the lives that have been changed forever. We also honor those brave men and women who are first-responders, who have cared for the victims of those attacks and have answered the call to defend our nation. In our silence, let us be united.”

Lower School students in grades 2-5 will pay tribute to the anniversary by treating today as “Patriot Day”. Head of the Lower School and Associate Head for Academic Administration, Patricia Marshall, made several suggestions regarding discussion for Lower School students. “This is a wonderful teachable moment about patriotism, courage, sacrifice, prevalence, perseverance and strength. Grades 2 and 3 can discuss the importance of community workers, helping others, rescue workers, soldiers and patriotism. Grades 4 and 5 could also discuss patriotism along with sacrifice.” Head of the Middle School, David Fischer also stated the importance of discussing the issues surrounding this topic with the students. “Our community was deeply affected by this tragedy 11 years ago, and the impact is still being felt today.”

Throughout the entire Ranney community, this moment of silence will pay tribute to the victims and remember all those who sacrificed their lives for our country.
