Farewell Message from Dr. Sykoff

Dear Ranney Friends,

As these are my last few days, I am writing with a goodbye and thank you.

My twenty year tenure at Ranney School has been the most wonderful part of my professional career. Being part of the lives of so many students, parents, teachers, administrators, trustees and community leaders has been an extraordinary opportunity, and I leave with a treasure chest of warm memories.

In walking around the campus these past few days, I found myself reflecting on so many of those joyful celebrations throughout the years. Most importantly, I remember the faces of children at Ranney School. I have always believed that great schooling is about finding the heart of a child. In that quest, you periodically look into the eyes of a child and see confidence, optimism, and purpose.

Those moments are golden—and they always reminded me of what I came here to do. I have never been more passionate about the nurturing of the unique greatness that lies within each child. A successful child, which is defined in so many unique and wonderful ways, is the surest measure of a great school. We are that kind of school.

As I often said over the years, I have been blessed with a deeply committed Board of Trustees, an inspiring and dedicated faculty and administration, and a loyal and caring community of parents and alumni. I shall always be grateful for this trust that we shared for so long.

Ranney School is a center for the acquisition of knowledge, vision and honor. Our noble promise of every child is known and valued is more than a mission—it is our way of life. And, in the pursuit of that promise, we find a bright and brilliant future.

I know that I will see you next year at the many school celebrations and school-wide events in my new role as Headmaster Emeritus, and I look forward to assisting in the continued growth of our school and supporting our new Head of School, Dr. John Griffith, as he begins an exciting new era on July 1. Without any doubt, there are many more great days ahead for Ranney School.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart—and may the dream continue!

With every good wish,

Lawrence S. Sykoff, Ed.D.
Headmaster Emeritus
Ranney School

P.S. My email address will remain the same: LSykoff@ranneyschool.org.
