A Project for Play: Renovation of the Playground!

A new project funded by parent gifts to the Ranney Annual Fund will be the renovation of the Early Childhood and Lower School playground. The current playground areas, adjacent to the Lower School and Early Childhood Education Center, have served the students of Ranney School well. However, the time has come to make significant changes aimed to improve the overall play experience of our youngest students in Beginners (age 3) through fifth grade. The overall work plan for the site includes:

  • Modifying the footprint of the playground to accommodate age-appropriate play areas along with smaller scale play features intended for younger children;
  • Removing existing mulch surface and installing cushioned, rubber groundcover;Refurbishing existing play structures and removing outdated equipment to replace with new play elements;
  • Supplementing the area with trees and various plantings to surround the playground and blend with the existing landscape; and
  • Creating sufficient shaded areas, benches, a drinking fountain and open grassy field space.

Ranney School is confident that the new playground area will offer many opportunities for creative play for years to come. More details about the renovation can be found here.

“Thanks to the generosity of a number of Lower School parents, our campaign to raise funds for the playground project is underway,” said Director of Development Lynn Lucarelli. “The entire community is invited to participate in the fundraising that will ultimately bring this project to fruition.”

The estimated cost to complete this project is $150,000. Nearly $80,000 has been raised to date and with Annual Fund and community support, the playground renovation will become a reality over the summer of 2014.
