Hall of Fame: Catherine Jones Kang `85 and Steve Gorsuch `67
As we countdown to the 2014 Homecoming and Fall Festival celebration—just one week away—Ranney School is spotlighting its distinguished alumni.
Catherine Jones Kang proudly attended Ranney School from seventh grade through her graduation as the valedictorian of the Class of 1985. While at Ranney, Catherine was a member of the Student Council, French Club,
The Torch,
RSVP and Chorus, along with being a member of the soccer and basketball teams. Upon graduating, she followed her dream to the US Coast Guard Academy where she served 20 years of active duty service. During her career, she was stationed on two ships that conducted search and rescue, law enforcement and homeland security. Catherine was also the navigator of the Coast Guard Barque EAGLE, America’s Tall Ship. On land, she participated in staff tours in strategic and financial management, organizational development and intelligence. From 2001 to 2003, Catherine served as a military aide to Vice President Dick Cheney during and after the attacks of September 11th, she coordinated emergency response and logistics among White House staff, Secret Service and the military.
Stephen Gorsuch was a member of Ranney’s Class in 1967. Today, he serves as Director of Broadcast Operations for the U.S. Open Tennis Championship and the Director of Golf Operations for
CBS Sports. He is a seven-time Emmy Award winner for various projects in sports television and has captured momentous historical events including Secretariat winning the Belmont by 31 lengths, Dwight Clark making “the catch” to propel the San Francisco 49ers to Super Bowl XVI and Arthur Fiedler leading the Boston Pops in their traditional rendition of “Stars and Stripes Forever” during America’s Bicentennial Celebration.
Both Catherine and Stephen are being honored with Ranney’s new Distinguished Alumni Award on the evening of October 18 as part of the Panther Hall of Fame inductee ceremony and annual alumni reception.
