Ranney School came in 1st place, after competing against students from local schools in an October 23 interscholastic math competition. The students, members of the school’s Math League advised by Middle School Math Teacher Jane Guadagno, competed in the event right here on Ranney’s campus. In all, 19 Lower School students (third, fourth and fifth graders) and 24 Middle School sixth graders participated in the contest with students representing the following local schools: Edgar Middle School, Homeschool, Oak Hill Academy, Pingry, Sacred Heart and Saint Leo the Great.
The event was run through Mathleague.org which sponsors several elementary school contests throughout the country each school year. The contests are structured in such a way that students will find the tests to be good preparation for other elementary and junior high math contests. Top-scoring students at qualifying meets held throughout the year are invited to compete at their state’s championship in May and winners of the state championships will be invited to a national championship in June.

Ranney Plus Math Olympiad program each school year. Meeting once a week for an hour after school, the fourth- and fifth-grade students, along with a group of sixth-grade Math League members, tackle problem solving, strategic thinking, scientific reasoning and concept application—all while having fun.
