Debate Students Persevere through Varsity Competition

Seniors Sophia Jackman and Sarah Klein rank 13th at New Jersey Speech and Debate Association matches.
Seniors Sophia Jackman and Sarah Klein represented Ranney well at a grueling day of New Jersey Speech and Debate Association matches held at Freehold Township High School on January 16, 2016. With a dense and difficult Public Forum topic of whether current sanctions imposed on Russia are meeting their intended goals, Sophia and Sarah competed in four 30-minute matches, winning their third match soundly. Competing against schools that have 40 or more students on their teams, Sophia and Sarah persevered through a very tough field. Ranney ranked 13th overall in the Varsity Public Forum category, with Sophia earning 12th place in a field of 34 individual varsity debaters.

The duo will have the opportunity to compete again with the same topic on
January 30 at the Ridge Invitational Tournament at Ridge High School in Basking Ridge, NJ.
