Varsity Track & Field Teams Continue Strong Season

Week of April 4:

The Ranney Varsity Girls' track team started its season with a strong showing against St. Rose at home on April 6. With six athletes, they managed to score in every event in which they were entered, against the far larger St. Rose team.
 
Shana Fitzmaurice '19, Maggie Rustico '19 and Mia Glass '19 took 1st  place in the 1600, 200 and 3200, respectively.  Shana took a 2nd in the 800, Maggie took 2nd in the 200 and Mia 2nd in the 800 as well. Athena Dookie '16 took 2nd in the long jump.  
 
On the Varsity Boys' Track team, Liam Fitzmaurice '17 kicked off the season with a new school record in the 1600, shaving precious tenths of a second off last season's best, in a time of 4:58.1 for 2nd place. He also took second in the 800.
 
Week of April 11:

The Ranney Girls’ Track “fab four” took on Keyport in the April 12 home meet. Kate Crilly '16, scored a hat trick as she took 1st in the 100, 200 and triple jump, setting a personal record in the 200 in the process.  Shana Fitzmaurice '19 took 1st in the 1600, setting a personal record of 5:45, and 1st in the 800, setting a personal record of 2:36. Laura Lehrfeld '18 took 3rd in the long jump, and Alexandra Greenberg '19 ran for a personal record in the 100.
 
Ranney’s “four horsemen” of track and field also hosted a home meet against Keyport on April 12. Liam Fitzmaurice '17 scored for the team, with 1st in the 1600 and 800.  Kayode Oladeji '19 took 2nd in the 400 and the triple jump. Mike Zheng '18 and Jack DeNicola '17 took 2nd and 3rd, respectively, in the 100, and Mike also scored 3rd in the 200 and the long jump.
