Young Musicians Take Gold & Silver Awards at 2016 Heritage Festival

Performing Arts students participated in the 2016 World Stride-Heritage Festival in Philadelphia on Saturday, April 16. With 19 chorus members, 25 orchestra members and 18 jazz band members, Mrs. Torrente, Mr. Propper, Dr.Sobieski and Mr. Doyle gave ensemble performances throughout the day at Marple Newtown Senior High School. The young musicians earned the following honors:
 
 
  • Upper School Show Choir - Gold Standing
  • Upper School Jazz Band - Silver Standing and a Trophies for Outstanding Band / Instrumental Sweepstakes
  • Upper School Chamber Orchestra - Silver Standing and a Trophy for Instrumental Sweepstakes
  
Maestro individual awards for excellence as soloists were awarded to freshman Carmine Mastokostas and junior Evan Schultz (Evan was also recently accepted into the NJ All-State Chorus for the third year in a row!).
 
The Ovation Award, which is presented to  a student whose contributions to the school's music program transcend the making of music  was presented to senior Cory Natofsky.
