Students Invite You to the APAC Players' Inaugural Performance

Dear Ranney Community

If we haven't met, my name is Abby Granata and I am a junior this year. For the past few months, I have been assisting fellow classmates Carmine Mastrokostas ‘18 and Amanda Serrapica ’18 in their new program, APAC Players at the Axelrod Performing Arts Center in Deal.

The premise of this organization is to allow all high school students the opportunity to become leaders in the arts, and take on new roles (no pun intended) that normally aren't offered to kids our age, making the entire production student-run. With that being said, every position from the director to the graphic designer, are held by local teenagers who have a strong interest and passion in these fields, and of course, theater. If you'd like to learn more about APAC Players and what we are about, feel free to visit our website here, also designed by students.

This new program's inaugural show is this weekend, February 10-12, and we would love for members of the Ranney community to come and support! The show is Runaways, a rock-pop musical about misunderstood, abused, confused urban kids who ran away from home by the groundbreaking playwright, director, composer, poet, and author Elizabeth Swados. Swados actually went on the streets of New York to interview real runaways when producing the show, and based the characters, monologues, and musical numbers off of their authentic experiences. When the production was on Broadway in the late ‘70s, it was even nominated for five Tony Awards, including Best Musical!

Despite it not being a more traditional musical, it addresses many issues that have great importance and are often brushed over. With that being said, the show has a more serious tone, but don't worry, there is still a fair share of upbeat musical numbers that will be stuck in your head for weeks!

If this sounds interesting to you and you'd like to come, a little invite is attached with all of the information you need. We would really love to see you there!

If you're wondering, the Ranney students involved are:
  • Carmine Mastrokostas '18, Director/Choreographer/Set Designer
  • Amanda Serrapica '18, Producer/Stage Managers/Properties
  • Abby Granata '18, Graphic & Web Designer
  • Ava Jacoby '19, portraying the role of Nikki

Thank you so much for reading this unintentionally long letter and constantly supporting the endeavors of the student body. Please feel free to email any of us involved if you have any questions!

Thanks again,
Abby Granata and the APAC Players
