1:1 Laptop Program Extended to First Grade

As Lower School students prepare to transition to Middle School, they may find that new technology offerings at Ranney will make the move smoother. The Middle School’s 1:1 Laptop Program has been extended down to the first grade, with each student being assigned an individual Toshiba laptop (grades 1-2) or Google Chromebook (grades 3-5) to use during the school day. Each classroom now has a rolling charging station for the devices as well. Our fifth graders are already using the resources, along with their new USB flash drives, to complete their Capstone research projects.

In addition to learning how to type and safely conduct research on the Internet, students across the Lower School division are learning how to use the same technology platforms, such as Google Drive, that are used in Middle and Upper School courses. In addition, this new offering provides them the opportunity to take ownership and responsibility for their laptops as they prepare for Middle School, and ultimately, Upper School, where they will participate in a Bring Your Own Device to school program.

Even our youngest students in Beginners, Pre-K, and Kindergarten are building valuable technology skills through iPads, SMARTBoard® technology, and age-appropriate, educational apps.

Ranney’s increasingly integrated technology program is aimed at enhancing students’ creative writing, problem solving, and cooperative thinking, as well as core analytical and communication skills.
