Rylan Foy Receives "Promise of the Future" MIT Award

Junior Rylan Foy of Spring Lake has received Ranney School’s 2017 “Promise of the Future” Student Award, presented by Upper School Faculty Member Chiara Shah on behalf of MIT’s Network of Educators in Science and Technology. The award is given to a student who, through personal initiative, has done the most to promote awareness of science of technology; the award aims to recognize the student’s accomplishments as well as his/her future potential.

“From the moment I met him three years ago, Rylan’s poise, confidence, and love of learning shone through everything he did,” said Mrs. Shah, who directs Ranney Robotics. “He is always focused and always working. Whether it’s programming his robot or completing his schoolwork, he has a schedule, sticks to it, and never misses a deadline. Students naturally gravitate to him for help, and he’s infinitely willing to assist. It comes as no surprise to me that his robotics team this year was one of the top teams at VEX Worlds, making it all the way to the semi-finals at the global tournament. He embodies everything that I respect: honesty, hard work, intellectual curiosity, and humility.”

Will Zheng, Class of 2017, received the award last year.
