Ranney Musicians Knock it out of the Park

Just over 60 Ranney Middle School Ensemble students participated in the 2017 Music in the Parks Festival last Friday, June 2, bringing home top awards in direction and performance. Band, chorus, and orchestra students joined ensembles from six other schools across New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania at the Kutztown University event.

Performing their best pieces in front of judges, festival coordinators, and each other, the students were poised, confident, respectful, and proud to be representing their school, says Choral Director Lillianne Torrente.

Mrs. Torrente, as well as Orchestra Director, Dorothy Sobieski earned Superior (1st Place) rankings at the festival while Jazz Band Director Mr. John Propper brought home an Excellent (2nd Place) award.  Even more exciting are the student ensemble awards received:

  • Jazz Choir – Overall Choir
  • Orchestra – Overall Orchestra
  • Siobhan Jones, Class of 2021 – Overall Vocalist
  • Saxon Dinowitz, Class of 2021– Overall Jazz Soloist

Congratulations to all performers!

In 2016, Ranney’s select chorus won Overall Best at the festival, and our concert chorus, select chorus, and orchestra earned 1stPlace ratings. Ranney’s band, orchestra, and choral music programs begin in third grade. The school holds two annual concerts, as well as division Coffee Houses and special events. For example, our student bands were pleased to perform June 3 at the school’s first-ever Rock For Ranney outdoor benefit concert.
