Ranney Sailors Take 2nd & 3rd at MASSA Qualifier

Over the September 16-17 weekend, four Ranney sailors participated in the Massa Cressy Laser Qualifier Regatta at Lavallette Yacht Club. Thirty-two sailors descended from Mid-Atlantic coast states upon Lavallette in hopes of qualifying for the Cressy High School Singlehanded Championships in St. Petersburgh, Florida.  Only the top three laser sailors would earn a berth to the championship regatta. After two days of sailing in less than optimal conditions, Ranney’s team captured two of the three births.

Juniors Luke Arnone and Cameron Giblin both qualified for the championship race.  Luke Arnone finished in 2nd place just two points behind the leader. Cameron Giblin came in 3rd place only four points behind the first place finisher. Sophomore Brooke Schmelz and junior Matthew Hamelsky also participated, showing the depth of the Ranney sailing team, which is coached by Clay Johnson.
