Sailing Wins Icebreaker Regatta

Thirteen NJISA high school teams hit the water at Toms River Yacht Club under clear blue skies and crisp temperatures to sail in this year’s Icebreaker Regatta.  A gradually building westerly breeze that brought more waves and higher gusts (18-20 mph) as the day went on made for challenging conditions.  Even though the temperature climbed into the low 40°’s, the wind chill factor kept the “feels like” temperature below freezing out on the water throughout the day’s racing.

In impressive fashion, Cameron Giblin, Brooke Schmelz, Matthew Hamelsky, and William Beyer won 6 of the 10 races and captured the top spot.

This was the first regatta of the season and a great start for the Ranney sailing team. The Panthers are coached by Clay Johnson.

Next weekend, the Ranney team competes in the NJISA Spring Fleet Championship Regatta at Toms River Yacht Club
